Jeff Cox started life in a small rural town in southern Illinois, but considers himself blessed to have grown up on the border of Mexico in Laredo, Texas. Jeff has always been fascinated by music, having studied multiple instruments – clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor sax, piano, guitar – but, it was not until his high school band director handed him a bass to play in the school’s jazz band that he finally felt like he had found his voice. Jeff fed his musical passion by practicing constantly and quickly earned himself a seat in the South Texas All-Region jazz ensemble.

After high school, Jeff decided that he would study music in Nashville, Tennessee where he received his Bachelors of Music in Commercial Performance from Belmont University and later his Master of Arts Degree in Jazz Studies from Middle Tennessee State University. While studying at Belmont, he was selected to play bass at Walt Disney World as a member of their college music program where he performed with jazz greats Arturo Sandoval, Tom Scott, Jiggs Whigam, Duffy Jackson, Ed Shaugnessey, Pete Christlieb, Steve Houton, and Med Flory. He has also performed in clinics with the legendary Jimmy Rainey and Jamey Aebersold.
